Re-Structuring Seunsangga Citywalk

The Seunsangga Complex (SC) sits within a focal location within old Seoul, yet over time it has become disconnected from the urban fabric. With Korean modernization its identity as a local industrial hub has decreased due to Building deterioration and the absence of current commercial programming. It now exists as a giant urban barrier, increasingly abandoned and perceived as slummed.

Our proposal aims to recover the site’s inherent contextual opportunities. 4 key phrases reflect or regeneration strategies.
- Restructuring Industry
- Proposing 5 Nodes
- Connecting Ecological Infrastructure
- Regenerating the Historic Urban fabric

Re-Structuring Seunsangga Citywalk

This approach will recover Seoul's “Green Axis”, connecting Jongmyo and Mt. Nam, north-south through a refurbished and expanded elevated deck running the length of the project and beyond. The Green Axis will draw upon and enhance the successful Cheonggye Creek “Blue Axis” which runs east-west connecting the CBD(Central Business District) and DDP(Dong Daemun Plaza). By proposing 5 nodes along the Green Axis where it crosses east-west streets and the creek and restructuring and modernizing its historic industry into a new technology hub, the proposal would draw commercial and recreational population. SC adapting to place and time will restore its industrial reputation and regenerate a public space in pursuit of an ecosystem of man, nature, industry as well as a “live museum” whose architecture and virtual landscapes redefine Korean modernism.
