Busan Opera House

THE SONORITY OF WATER

The ocean sinks into oblivion; its own memory renewed by its reclamation. We’d like to symbolize this area as the source of water. Concentric circles cover the landscape, symbolizing the waves of sound and highlighting the space as an epicenter for culture. The BOH site is perfectly situated to release the urban pressure of old downtown, becoming an extension of the historic district. As such, BOH will continue to serve the public with open space, waterfront, a park, a promenade, and a Marine Cultural District as demanded by Busanlites. The BOH is changing from the urbanscape of old downtown to a new eco-friendly waterscape, eventually linking downtown and the Green loop to Yongdusan Park, Busan Central Park, Mt. Eumkwang and a proposed park covering train tracks. BOH is accessible not only through ground routes but also through the water channel, connecting Old Downtown to public transportation, tourist cruises, and private yachts. The ground route can be easily accessed and navigated through sequential and gradual circulation paths from the nodes. Corridors connecting the Busan Opera House to the open public spaces provide optimized pedestrian activity for a pleasant experience.
